Woodwinds

Woodwind chamber music is open to majors and non-majors.

Music majors: Please complete the Chamber Music Registration Form by Friday, August 15, 2025.
Non-music majors: To register for a Chamber Music Audition, complete the Non-Major Audition Form by Friday, August 29, 2025. Please note that while auditions are not required for non-major students registered for Spring 2025 Chamber Music, submission of the audition form is still mandatory. Non-major students who did not register will need to upload a video audition to the above form by Friday, August 29, 2025. The audition should be no longer than 5 minutes and include two contrasting selections, such as etudes, movements from larger works, orchestral excerpts, or excerpts from a solo piece.
**The Wind Symphony, Orchestra and Contemporary Music Ensemble are primarily open to music majors. However, non-music major students who play oboe, bassoon, clarinet and saxophone are invited to audition. To register for a large ensemble audition, please complete the Non-Major Audition Form by Monday, August 4, 2025.

Non-Music Major auditions for chamber music placement will take place on Tuesday,
January 21, 2025 from 6:30 - 9:30 pm in the Paulson Center, room 562. Please complete the Audition Form by January 15.
Please prepare one solo piece or one etude of your choice. Auditions slots will be 5 minutes each.
An email confirmation with your audition date and time will be sent to you January 17.
NYU Orchestra and NYU Wind Symphony are generally open to music majors only. However, based on need within sections, non-majors can be considered for placement in these ensembles. If you would like to be considered for a large ensemble, please notate this on the Audition Form and prepare the excerpts listed for your instrument here.

Piano
Manuel Laufer, Director of Collaborative Piano
Piano Performance majors are required to register for chamber music each semester. Opportunities include small ensembles coached by Artist Faculty in Piano Studies, Strings, and Winds, and Song Repertoire courses co-taught by Artist Faculty in Vocal Performance and Piano Performance. This requirement is also fulfilled by placement in large ensembles (Orchestras, Baroque Ensemble, and Contemporary Music Ensemble). For assignments, piano performance majors should contact Dr. Manuel Laufer. Non-major pianists with extensive musical experience may also contact Dr. Laufer to audition for ensemble placement.
Piano Studies Chamber Music Workshop (MPAPE-UE 1080, Section 002) provides participatory experiences for student pianists at all levels regardless of prior chamber experience. No audition is required.
